Malaysia and Thailand

This is all Rhetts fault for starting it... I was happily considering a trip through NZ, and he decided that a trip to Thailand would be the bees knees. We threw a couple of ideas around, starting in bangkok, taking trains and such, checking out the highlands, and it kinda merged into a trip up the Isthmus of Kra.
Behold the Isthmus
Behold the Isthmus

So, Maybe come in at Singapore, hang out there for a day or two, see Sentosa, check out the MerLion, the technology shopping centres, ride the MRT, see Raffles Place... the usual things you do in Singapore...

Estimate 2-3 days

Then we hit Malaysia. I'd prefer to go by bus, as its a fairly dramatic change going across the Causeway. That'd take us to Johor Bahru. From there, we can take a bus, a minivan, or something to Muar and then Melaka (See the sun set over the ocean, check out the old Dutch buildings and canons and such), then into KL.

FYI - 28/9/08 Currency Ex = 0.351327, or 2.8ish the other way.

At KL, I'm keen on seeing about renting/buying some motorbikes (eg [[1]] (and maybe GPS (Here's a potato), or maybe some bikes and a 4wd and ride to the Genting Highlands, maybe via Selangor with the pewter things, and teh Batu Caves... and whatever else is about the place on our way (self propelled) to somewhere like Ipoh, or even Penang if the ride isnt too taxing for everyone. It's only abt 300Km as the crow flies, which is less than a trip to TSV, so spread over about 3 days, it should be easy to do and see a heap of stuff. Heck, I'd be keen to double it and head over to somewhere on the other coast for a bit just to sample the local environment again... but we'll see...

Estimate 4-5 days

Anyway, we hit Penang or Langkawi, and then hop a flight into Thailand... Phuket to be precise. Spend a while there enjoying the beach, the bars, and the bargains, (and the temples and such that I guess are around there too) and then maybe bounce across to the other side of the Isthmus to Ko Samui then head north again, into Thailand, maybe fly to Chiang Mai, maybe just check out the areas closer to the border like Krung Thep (Bangkok)... then finally fly home... If we're going to the Northern city of Chiang Mai, it'd also be worth a stop in Sukhothai Park

Estimate 10-12 days
